Food allergens are a matter of life and death daily for many in the U.S. and globally. This session highlights current regulatory efforts in the U.S. to protect food-allergic consumers. It will also provide insights into the Codex document on Management of Food Allergens by Food Business Operators from the food processing level to food consumed while eating out that is being developed by the Codex Committee on Food Hygiene (developed by Australia, the US and the UK). The attendee will understand the public health impacts of food allergens and the controls needed to protect consumers.
The attendee to this session will also understand key provisions of FSMA Preventive Controls Rule with respect to the control of food allergens in the processing environment, understand the requirements of the Food Allergen and Consumer Protection Act (FALCPA) and actions taken to date by FDA to meet its mandate. The attendee will recognize the various aspects involved in the control of food allergens as it relates to food provided to the consumer at retail food establishments and in retail food stores.
