Senior Food Safety Extension Specialist and Team Lead, Industrial Food Safety and Quality

Martin Bucknavage has been Penn State’s Senior Food Safety Specialist and Program Team Leader for the Industrial Food Safety and Quality Team for over 18 years. In this role, he provided training and technical support to food manufacturing and retail / food service companies in the areas of food safety, food processing, and quality management. Prior to Penn State, Martin worked in various technical management roles, including directing quality and R&D functions for food manufacturing companies and managing commercial food testing laboratories.
He is a lead instructor for Food Safety Preventive Controls Alliance (FSPCA)’s Preventive Controls and FSVP, International HACCP Alliance, and the National Restaurant Association. He served on the FSPCA Executive Advisory Board where he was the program lead for the Preventive Controls Human Foods Update Committee. He was awarded the 2024 FSPCA Volunteer of the Year. He holds a BS degree in Microbiology and an MBA from Penn State, and an MS in Food Science from Virginia Tech.
