FDA to Strengthen Evaluation of Chemicals in Food and Feed
Editor's Note: The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced yesterday that it is taking steps to strengthen its program of assessing the safety of chemicals in foods, cosmetics, dietary supplements, animal food/feed and veterinary drugs. On Aug. 27, the Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) launched a pre-emptive strike by announcing its own initiative to help modernize the process of assessing the safety of ingredients used in food products. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) yesterday announced that it has completed a review of how it evaluates the harmful effects of chemicals in foods, cosmetics, dietary supplements, animal food/feed and veterinary drugs. Based on the findings, the agency is taking steps to strengthen internal processes.
