SESSION HIGHLIGHTS:
In the USA, hydroponic products are already making an important impact in the market, with many companies successfully growing hydroponic lettuce. This symposium has two sessions. The first session includes the talks on controlled environmental agriculture (CEA), with emphasis on hydroponic production. There are important terms that will help understand the complexity of CEAs. The second session includes a review the basic regulatory landscape for hydroponic systems, the organization of a food safety system, with an example of hydroponic lettuce, and the importance of third-party audits of food safety systems. Please make sure to read the supplemental information under session handouts.
